Ret. SSG. Joseph Leo Michael Suloski, 81, of Columbus, GA peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held 1:00 PM Monday, October 24, 2011 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL with Reverend Danny Courtney officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Ret. SSG. Suloski was born April 28, 1930 in Shenandoah, PA son of the late Joseph Suloski, Sr. and Theresa Zukas Suloski. He retired in 1971 after twenty years and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict with 187 Paratrooper 25 Infantry Division in Vietnam. He received paratrooper wings, combat infantry badge, 2nd Award Silver Star, 3 Bronze Stars with V-Device, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 50 year presidential Korea Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf, Valorous Unit Award, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and Republic of Vietnam Callantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation. After he retired from the military with twenty years of service, he worked for Colonial Bakery. He was also a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Fizer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Erika Stefani Suloski of Columbus, GA, three daughters, Sandy DiCesaris (Tom) of Columbus, GA, Erika Suloski of Columbus, GA and Tina Weatherholtz of Phenix City, AL, grandchildren, Jennifer Dobbs, Buffy Frazier, Chad Weatherholtz, Stormie Frazier, Jonathan DiCesaris, Kenneth Weatherholtz, Leo DiCesaris, Andrew Weatherholtz and Lily DiCesaris, and seven great grandchildren.
