Ret. Fire Sgt. Gary Steven Brown, 65, of Daytona Beach, Fla. died Thursday, June 07, 2018 at Halifax Hospital following a brief battle with Cancer.
Funeral Services with Fireman's Honors will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Eric Gargus officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Honorary Pallbearers will be active and retired firefighters of the Columbus Fire and EMS Department.
Mr. Brown was born November 04, 1952 in Columbus, Ga. son of the late Kenneth Paul Brown and Minnie L. "Betty Abbott. Steve made his profession of faith in Christ and attended Maranatha Baptist Church in Columbus, Ga. Steve graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1970 and retired after 30 years as a sergeant with the Columbus Fire and EMS after making many friends. He was known by many as "Squirrel". He also owned and operated Southern Heating and Air in the Columbus area. He was most recently employed in Daytona at Halifax Hospital as a security officer and also the Daytona Police Department.
Other than his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his loving wife Linda Kay Brown.
Survivors include his children, Leigh Brown White (Shane) of Valley, Al., Gary Steven Brown, II. of Columbus, Ga., Kacie Brown Smith (David) of Columbus, Ga., step-daughter, Misty Hunter of Columbus, Ga., brother, Floyd "Buster" Taylor (Karen) of Quitman, Ga., sister, Sue Taylor Moore (Butch) of Hamilton, Ga., and step-father, Orrin Abbott (Virginia) of Columbus, Ga., 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Steve is also survived by his companion of 27 years, Betsy Garrett and her son Tommy of South Daytona Beach, Fl.
