Ret. SGM Ronald Vincent Brinker, 76, of Columbus, GA passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Columbus, GA after a long illness.
Memorial Services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery Memorial Wall according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory.
Ron was born October 17, 1939 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan son of the late Dorothy Josephine Donnelly Brinker and Vincent Henry Brinker. The family moved to Hersey, MI in 1944. Ron graduated from Hersey High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Army soon thereafter.
Ret. SGM Brinker had an outstanding military career and served his country honorably for 20 years until retirement. While serving more than 2 years in Vietnam as an Army Ranger, he was awarded numerous decorations to include 2 Silver Stars, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Ranger Tab, Master Parachute Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Combat Infantry Badge and many more distinguishing commendations. Being a Ranger was first in his life.
Other than his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his four sisters, three brothers, and one child, Jacqueline Marie Cohen Brinker.
Left to mourn his passing are five children, Deborah Willey, David McNurlen, John Brinker, Dane Brinker, and Darby Brinker, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, and 27 nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald V. Brinker Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo. Donations will be used to purchase memorial pavers on Ft. Benning. Please mail donations to: Brinker 6601 Highridge Drive, Columbus, GA 31904.
