Ret. Sgm Ernest "Bo" Howard Bowen

Ret. SGM Ernest "Bo" Howard Bowen, 85, of Ellerslie, GA died Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Columbus Hospice House. He was a proud, devoted, loving and caring husband, father, and patriot. He fought a long, hard and valiant fight with numerous issues related to his distinguished service for our country.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Parkhill Cemetery 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Bowen was born October 14, 1932 in Ellenboro, NC son of the late Ernest G. Bowen and Reba Randall Bowen. He medically retired from the U.S. Army having served 30 years, serving multiple tours in Korea and Vietnam. During his military career, he received the following: Vietnam (DaNang) Service Medal , National Defense Service Medal (1st, 2nd) Award, Over Seas Bar (4), Army Commendation Medal (1st, 2nd, 3rd) Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with PALM, Good Conduct Medal (9th) Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal, European Theater of Operations, and Legion of Merit.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Cholewinksi Bowen and their son, Thomas "Spanky" Bowen.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Howard Bowen (Brenda), Mary Benes (Mark), Carolyn Rogers (Ryan), Donna Reyes (Richard), Cathy Thomas (Michael) and Joan Wynn (Tim), 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
