Ret. SFC Howard N. Alpaugh, Jr, 68, died in the loving arms of his wife of 48 years, "Rafi", with his daughter and son by his side Friday, April 8, 2011 . Graveside services with full military honors will be held 2 P.M., Monday, April 11, 2011 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Cook officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 till 4 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Ret SFC Alpaugh was born September 3, 1942 in Somerville, NJ son of the late Sarah J. Auburn Alpaugh and Howard N. Alpaugh, Sr. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during the VietNam Conflict.
He is loved by so many people he touched through all of his unselfish generosity toward worthwhile charitable causes such as MDA, The American Red Cross, Help Hospitalized Veterans Organization, Cancer Research Centers, and so many other organizations he volunteered his time and heart too.
Colonel Howard Alpaugh "Auctioneer" in Georgia and Alabama touched so many hearts and made innumerable friends. He is and always will be our "Hero".
Survivors include his wife, Rafaela Alpaugh of Columbus, GA; daughter, Sallie Alpaugh of Columbus, GA; son, Michael Alpaugh (Carol) of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughters, Samantha Ayachi (Walid) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Brittnie L. Goldman (Adam) of Rockville, MD; grandsons, Patrick Alpaugh of Germany and Brandon Alpaugh of North Carolina; great granddaughter, Amira Ayachi of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Robert Alpaugh of Chicago, IL; sister-in-law, Maria Alicea of Columbus, GA and several nieces and nephews.
