Renate Elisabeth Idell, 80, of Columbus, GA, died Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Father Jeremiah McCarthy officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery.
Mrs. Idell was born on April 28, 1934 in Hindenburg, Germany, daughter of the late Erich Matera and Margarete Knopik Matera. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Carl Idell. In her younger years Mrs. Idell was employed as a beautician. She never met a stranger, volunteered for many activities and always saw the bright side of life. She was caring and loving to her family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include two daughters, Blanche Montgomery (David) of Hoover, AL, and Gabriele Roesch of Germany; two sons, John Michael Idell (Allyson) and Daniel Carl Idell (Nikki) both of Columbus, GA; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
