Ray Ralph Brown, 83, of Columbus, GA died Monday, June 13, 2016 at Columbus Hospice House.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Mr. Jay P. Brown officiating. A private burial will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown was born May 3, 1933 in Phenix City, AL son of the late Paul Seth and Odessa Gunter Brown. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served as a Paratrooper located at Fort Bragg, NC. Prior to his military service Mr. Brown was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals as a shortstop and also played professional basketball for House of David as a shooting guard. He worked as a Field Engineer for Bellsouth for over 40 years servicing the Columbus and Phenix City areas where he established many lifelong friendships. Mr. Brown was also affectionately known as "Coach Brown", as he was the coach of the Pioneer Colts having won multiple bowl games including the Peanut Bowl and city titles.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Wyanne G. Collins Brown of Columbus, GA, son, Jay P. Brown of Oxford, MS, and two grandchildren, Reagan and Collins Brown.
