Ramona Martin Lawrence, affectionately known as Ramona to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023, at the age of 85 in her hometown of Columbus, GA. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2023 2:00 pm at Riverdale Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday, January, 4 2023 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Born on March 25, 1938, to Juanita Killingsworth Martin and Joseph Clifford Martin, Ramona was a beacon of kindness and love throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Ramona was a proud graduate of Columbus High School, class of 1956, where she formed lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for her future endeavors. Her dedication to her career was evident as she served as a manager for Blue Cross for an impressive forty years. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impact on her colleagues and those she served in her professional role.
Her love story began with the late Bobby E. Lawrence, her beloved husband, with whom she shared a life full of joy and cherished moments until his passing. Together, they raised their son, Ronald E. Lawrence, who also preceded her in death. Ramona's legacy continues through her adoring family, including her granddaughter, Barbara Elizabeth Moody (Don), and her great-grandchildren, Galen Rycroft, Gracie Jo Hart, and Lila Belle Moody. She also leaves behind her dear niece, Deborah Grinder, and nephew, David Schaible, Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Frances Martin Gibson, and her brother, William J. 'Bill' Martin.
A devout member of the Altman Memorial Baptist Church, Ramona's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her involvement in church activities not only fulfilled her spiritual needs but also allowed her to form a community of friends who shared her values and beliefs. Ramona's kindness, loving nature, and thoughtfulness were the hallmarks of her character, and these traits were evident in every aspect of her life, from her personal relationships to her professional interactions.
As we say goodbye to Ramona, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, service, and the simple joys of being together with family and friends. Her spirit of generosity and her unwavering kindness will remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
