Ralph Brown Hammond, Jr. passed away on January 29, 2021.  He was born August 17, 1948, the only child of Ralph B. Hammond and Lina K. Hammond of Enigma, GA.  He attended Berrien County Schools and graduated from Valdosta State College, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Ross.  They were married December 27, 1970, at the beginning of his three years of military service.  He served in the US Army Infantry Human Research Unit at Ft. Benning.  He completed a Master’s Degree in Educational Research and doctoral course work at Georgia State University where he also taught research and statistics courses.  His career as a Statistician and Operations Research Analyst included work in the Atlanta area at the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs, the Georgia Department of Human Resources, and the Georgia Department of Education.  In 1981, the Hammond family returned to Columbus where he completed 27 years of service in various project officer and manager positions at the Infantry School.  These included post fielding weapons systems evaluations, course management and evaluation, and the development of Infantry unit collective tasks and battle drills. Additionally, he coordinated Infantry School participation in International Programs and activities with British, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand and Brazilian armies.  After retirement in 2009, he was a volunteer math tutor with the Muscogee County Alternative school for eight years and has been an active member of Wynnton United Methodist Church since 1982.  He and Nancy enjoyed travel, ballroom dancing and family activities with their two wonderful children, Stacey and Rob.  With a full life of work and activities, he always said he would be a success only if he made Nancy happy.

Services for Ralph’s immediate family will be set at a later time.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wynnton United Methodist Church, Columbus, GA.
