Rafael A. Cuzcano

Rafael A. Cuzcano, 73, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, August 23, 2023 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside.

The family will receive friends 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Monday, August 28, 2023 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Rafael was born July 27, 1950 in Tarapoto, Peru, to the late Jose Cuzcano, and Herlinda Rios. After graduating high school in Tarapoto, Rafael attended the Peruvian Air Force Academy where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology.  Upon completing his degree, Rafael went to work as a diplomat for President Fujimori. In 1998, he transferred to Miami, FL to work at the Peruvian embassy. Rafael’s final assignment was as an instructor in the Prestigious School of Americas located at Fort Benning, GA, where he retired as a Sergeant Major with over 30 years of honorable service. He eventually settled down in Columbus, GA with his Loving wife Norma. After his service, he continued to work for Walmart for several years.

Rafael’s legacy lives on. In 2008, he opened Normita’s Latin American Restaurant, which serves the community of south Columbus, Ft. Moore. His family remembers him as a strong family man. He enjoyed classical music, military films and documentaries.

In addition to his parents, his two brothers Walter Cuzcano and Jose Cuzcano precede him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Norma Cuzcano, daughter, Melissa Cuzcano, Sons, Cristian Cuzcano, Jose Cuzcano and Rafael Cuzcano.
