Rachel George Hinton passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. She was born January 28, 1932, in Columbus, Georgia, daughter of the late Charles Dudley George and Pluma Reece George. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Gibson, Harolyn Hunt, Sue Fox, and Dot Miles, all from Columbus, Georgia, and a brother, Charles George of Harrisonville, Missouri.
Rachel grew up in Columbus, Georgia and was a graduate of Columbus High School. She met and married Lloyd T. Hinton (Buddy) and they were happily married for 72 years. Rachel was a dedicated Christian and a lifelong member of Wynnbrook (Wynnton) Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved greatly, always sharing her life with others. Her poor health in the last few years did not stop her in sharing selflessly. Family was always her priority.
Rachel retired from Hatcher-Stubbs Law Firm after 20 years of service. She is survived by herhusband, Lloyd T. Hinton, Sr. of Columbus, 4 children: Suzan Johnson (Al), Americus, GA, Skippy Hinton, Columbus, GA, Ricky Hinton (Sherry), Columbus, GA and Britt Hinton, Atlanta, GA., and a sister, Ellen Torbett of Jacksonville, FL. She also leaves 9 Grandchildren: Sandi Star (Tom), Tracy Rhyne, Jessica Johnson, Christy Davidson, Richard Hinton, Jr. (Selena), Brooks Hinton (Melissa), Carley Neill, Bradley Hinton (Dina), Sarah Keller (Eric) and 19 Great Grandchildren: Jake, Calli, Kadie, Connor, Devon, Tavion, Trent, Alex, Waggener, Berkleigh, Kaleigh, Kourtney, Caleb, Sarah Kate, Emory, Eli, Madison, Emma, and Harper.
