R. Larry Phillips, 68, of Midland, GA died Monday, February 13, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 17, 2012 at Cornerstone Baptist Church 16117 GA HWY 315 Ellerslie, GA 31807 with Dr. Tommy Henschel officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Phillips was born September 1, 1943 in Columbus, GA son of the late E.C. and Audrey Edwards Phillips. He was the owner of Phillips Construction Company and was a member and servant leader of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips served and was a member of the Board of Trustees at St. Francis Hospital, and the Associated General Contractors, Green Island Country Club and Model A Ford Club of America. He was the Past President of the Columbus Home Builders Association, the Rotary Club of North Columbus, Chattahoochee River Club, and Boy Scouts of America where he served on the Executive Board and the Finance Committee. He was the Past Chairman of the Columbus Boards of Zoning Appeals, past member of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Land and Building Committee, and a past board member of The Family Center.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patsy Brunson Phillips of Midland, GA, two daughters, Cindy Phillips Jones (Rick) of Shiloh, GA and Leslee Phillips Real of Columbus, GA, two sisters, Dorothy Phillips Bush of Rogers, AR and Dr. Nona Katherine Phillips Golden (Dr. Rob Golden) of Seattle, WA, brother, Robert W. Phillips (Alice Hood Phillips) of Mooresville, N.C., three grandchildren, Matthew Brunson Gibson, Kaitlyn Ann Real and Madison Katherine Real, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 215 Ellerslie, GA 31807 or to the St. Francis Foundation 2300 Manchester Expressway F-3 Columbus, GA 31904.
