Police Captain Jackey Lynn Long, 63, of Columbus, GA died Monday, July 8, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Cascade Hills Church with Rev. Brad Melton, Mr. Archie Rainey and Police Chaplain Roy Isasi officiating. A private family interment with Police Honors will be held in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The following Officers will serve as Active Pallbearers; Tim Wynn, Gene House, Mike O'Keefe, John PaPay, Bob Cox, Vincent Lockhart, Jr., Gilbert Lujan and Mark McMullen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Active and Retired Officers of the Columbus Police Department. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Captain Long was born September 1, 1949 in Newport, AR son of the late Vestel Z. and Ruby Barnum Long. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and started his 38 year police career with the Atlanta Police Department and was presently a Captain with the Columbus Police Department. He was a member and former Secretary and Treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police, SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management), Four Square Living Way Gospel Church and taught at the CSU Command College, Columbus Technical College and the Macon Police Academy.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Norma R. "Becky" Long of Columbus, GA, two daughters, Penny Lynn Long of Columbus, GA and Sonja Lehmann (Dennis) of Five Points, AL, three sisters, Riggie Toddy of Las Vegas, NV, Carolyn Rick of Long View, TX and Little Mae Bacus of Little Rock, AR, one brother, Buddy Summers of New Port, AR and one granddaughter, Ellie Lehmann of Five Points, AL.
