Dr. Philip Earl Green departed this life on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.

Philip was born January 19, 1940 in Sylacauga, Alabama and was preceded in death by his father, Thomas N. Green and maternal grandmother, Annie Hand Johnson. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Johnson Green.

Philip was a kind, gentle, and scholarly man who perfectly embodied the life of the mind and worked tirelessly to instill a love of learning in his students. Among other positions, he served on the faculties of Kendrick High School and Columbus State University. He earned degrees from Birmingham-Southern College, Wake Forest University and Duke University where he completed his Ph.D. in History.

Interment will be held at Marble City Cemetery in Sylacauga according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
