Peggy Joyce (Howell) Teal
October 23, 1934 — September 4, 2022
Peggy Joyce Howell Teal, 87, of Columbus, GA went to be with her Lord & Savior Sunday, September 4, 2022 with her family by her side at Columbus Hospice House. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 14, 2022 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Peggy was born October 23, 1934 in Columbus, GA, the daughter of the late Earnest Howell and Evelyn Statham Howell. After graduating from Jordan High School in 1952, she became an executive secretary at Fourth National Bank and later at CB&T. When she married, she paused her career to stay at home and raise her two children, Sharon and Steve. She then had several secretarial jobs in Columbus at Tom’s Foods, Lummus Industries, Beacon Theological Seminary, and worked for various local attorneys. She was an exceptional secretary and could type 100 wpm.
Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her aunts and uncles, Juliette Statham, Willie Mae Statham, Durwood Statham, and Harold C. Statham; cousins Harold Statham, Sherry Barlow Cooper, Jim Barlow; and her ex-husband Dudley Teal.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Scott (Ron) of Phenix City, AL; son, Steve Teal (Candy) of Cataula, GA; grandson, Brandon Beach (Jessica) of Phenix City, AL; and 5 great grandchildren, Connor, Nathan, Braydon, Clinton, and Shyanne who she loved with all her heart and enjoyed spending time with. She loved taking them out to eat and going to the parks to watch them play. She will also be greatly missed by her cousins, Ray Statham, Eric Statham, Amber Statham, Starla (David) Statham Brokamp, Summer (Brad) Statham Clark, Diane Statham Barronton, their children and her dear friend Mary Owens.
