Peggy Harbuck Payton
November 2, 1949 — January 25, 2014
Peggy Harbuck Payton, age 64, our "Sissy" died Saturday, January 25, 2014 following a long battle with cancer. She died at home surrounded by loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at Central Christian Church at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 with Reverend Gregg Runnion and Reverend Paul Appleby officiating. A private entombment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery.The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Peggy retired from Columbus State University Athletic Department as the Administrative Assistant after 21 years of service. She was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
Peggy, daughter of the late Samuel J. and Jean K. Harbuck, was born November 2, 1949 in Columbus, GA. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Terry R. Payton Sr.. Survivors include two sons, Bradley Lewis Stuckey, and Terry R. Payton Jr. (Missy); daughter, Allison Jill Payton, all of Columbus; two sisters, Barbara H. Smith (Michael) of Columbus, and Cathy H. Lockett (Mark) of Mobile, AL; nephew, Sam Lockett, both of Mobile, AL; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Lauren Payton.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Columbus Hospice or the local animal rescue.
