Peggy Elaine DePope, age 75, passed away on January 22, 2024 at her home in Fortson, Georgia.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 25, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Peggy was born in Benton, Illinois on November 15, 1948 to Robert and Wanda Sellars. When Peggy was 13 years old her father’s job took the family to Melbourne, Florida. It was in Melbourne where Peggy Sellars met and married the love of her life, a young Marine by the name of Jedd DePope.

Peggy cherished her roles as a supportive military wife and stay-at-home mom to her daughters throughout her husband’s military career.  After multiple moves within the US and to Germany, Peggy and Jedd decided to retire and make Columbus, Georgia their home. Years later, the peace and solitude of the country enticed Peggy and Jedd to build their forever home in Fortson, Georgia.

Peggy loved her family dearly. “Granny” as she was affectionately called, adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Notta problem” was Granny’s coined response when one her grandchildren asked her to do something. Granny embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and unending generosity.

A talented seamstress, Peggy created, altered, repaired, and restyled many garments over the years for family, friends, and practically anybody else who needed her to alter their prom or wedding dress. In addition to sewing, she enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and watching Braves baseball.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, sister Karen Sellars, and her in-laws, William and Madeline DePope.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Jedd DePope; daughters, Michelle Martin (Price) and Kathi Yancey (Jeff); grandchildren, Price Martin (Chelsy), Madeline Sylvis (Dalton),Reagan Thomas, Cameron Yancey (Shelby), and Connor Yancey (Emily); great-grandchildren, Carter Martin and Jedd Martin. Her sisters, Becky Noll and Page Kowalchik, both of Melbourne, Florida; special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Family Support (wwfs.org), 11218 John Galt Blvd, #103, Omaha, NE, 68137 in honor of her husband.
