Gary was born in Columbus, Georgia on August 10, 1944 to Capt. Paul Gerche Scheible and Iva Colquitt Scheible. His early years were spent in Germany, Alaska, Texas, Savannah and Macon, then they returned to Columbus when his father retired from the Air Force.

He attended Columbus High School and Lyman Ward Military Academy. His college years at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Florida were cut short when he joined the USAF to serve in Vietnam. He completed two tours there and was honorably discharged in 1971. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. However, later in life, his enjoyment of these activities was probably more centered on his grandchildrens’ love of the outdoors.

Pamela Porter was his high school sweetheart and they were married March 15, 1969. They lived in Florida for several years and returned to Columbus following the birth of their first child. Gary worked at Lummus, then Litho-Krome in Quality Assurance for many years until his retirement.

Gary is survived by his wife, Pamela Porter Scheible, daughter Stacey Scheible Hollomon (William), son Garrick Todd Scheible (Mindy), daughter Sarah Scheible Terry (David), sister, Patricia Scheible Paulk (Asheville, NC), sister Cynthia Scheible Kelly (John). Beloved grandchildren include Haygen Spring Hollomon, Hunter Garren Hollomon, Colten Gage Scheible, Ella Kate Scheible, Emme Scheible Terry. To his grandchildren, he was Papa. He eagerly and lovingly attended ball games, ballet recitals, and any event involving them. He was an active volunteer at Mulberry Creek Elementary School where he was awarded a VIP button. Although it was a small token, we all know it had real value to him. After his retirement, his true life’s work was his grandchildren. All of whom he dropped off, picked up, ate lunch with and delivered necessities to while they were students at MCE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mulberry Creek Elementary STEAM Fund 8405 GA-315 Cataula, GA. 31804
