Paul Dixon Matthews, 72, of Phenix City, AL passed away Monday evening, August 26, 2013 following a lengthy battle against cancer.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 30, 2013 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dan MacMinn officiating. A short service at Parkhill Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Matthews was born September 4, 1940 in Columbus, GA to the late Charlie and Leila Belle Harp Matthews. He retired from Goldens Foundry & Machine Co after more than 40 years of dedicated service. Paul's greatest passion was fishing, anytime, anywhere. He also was accomplished in remodeling and serving as a handyman in the Columbus and Phenix City area. He was a kind and generous person, had a story about everything and always had a smile on his face.
He was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church in Hamilton, GA.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Ann "Patsy" Matthews and brother, Charles D. Matthews.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Anita Matthews of Phenix City, AL, step-daughter, Nikki Parish of Phenix City; sons, Steve Matthews ( Brenda) of Columbus and Tommy Matthews( Marion) of Box Springs; daughter, Paula Matthews Strickland of Box Springs, step-sons, Brian Corbitt of Phenix City and Wayne Corbitt (Vanessa) of Smiths; sister Sudie Matthews Cook (Rod) of Oakwood, TX, brothers, Sammy Matthews (Jackie) of Hamilton and Euchee Matthews (Dalton) of Alachua, FL; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great- grandchildren.
