MSG (Ret.) Otis Erskin Amick, 77, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital.

Funeral services with full military honors and Masonic Rites will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 6, 2012 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Tucker and Reverend Aimee Baxter officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907.

Mr. Amick was born September 10, 1934 in Beckley, W. VA, son of the late Otis E. Amick and Margaret Kennedy Amick Scott. He retired after 24 years from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant having served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal (2d Oak Leaf Cluster) & V Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 3 Overseas Service Bars, Air Medal, Master Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal, Korean Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, and 7 Service Stripes. He was a member of St Mark United Methodist Church, the VFW, American Legion, Columbus/Ft Benning Shrine Club, Mount Hermon Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Provost Guard, Advisor to Vietnam Airborne (Red Hat), Old Airborne Instructors (Black Hat) and 173rd Airborne Brigade.

He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 24 ½ years, Gwen Hodges Merritt Amick of Columbus, GA, children, Matthew Otis Amick (Jackie) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Theresa Amick Plemmons of Beckley, W. VA, Lisa Jo Amick Chatfield, of Odon, IN, Mark Merritt (Cindy) of West Point, GA and Paul T. Merritt (Pam) of Columbus, GA, sister, Alma Walsh (Ron) of Jacksonville, FL and brother, George Amick of Grover, NC., ten grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to St. Mark United Methodist Church 6795 Whitesville Rd. Columbus, GA 31904.
