Ollie Mae Jenkins, 97, of Phenix City, AL died Friday, November 23, 2018 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, November 30, 2018 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Pastor Judy Hay officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Jenkins was born August 8, 1921 in Porterville, CA daughter of the late Tollie Mayhue Keck and Bessie Gertrude Hall, the 5th child in a family of 6. She was a military wife for 25 years and traveled the U.S., Europe, Japan and Thailand with Charles. She was a stay-at-home mom and an avid gardener and reader.
She spent many hours walking thru their woods near Crawford, AL learning names of nature, trees, etc. She always said that "in the woods and surroundings is where her spirit lived". Like Charles, she felt that the Indian way to be with their spiritual feelings was comforting to her-the world, sun, and all our earth.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles H. Jenkins, sons-in-law, Jimmie Elliott and Herman Hilliard, grandchild, Joanna Bowen.
Survivors include her children, Linda Elliott, Carole Hilliard, Michael Jenkins, Chris Jenkins and Cynthia Wombles (David), grandchildren, Melanie Foy, Michael Elliott, Todd Elliott, Jeff Richardson, Lori Barwick, Scott Richardson, Americ Jenkins, Marcus Jenkins, Erin Maxwell and Brian Hall, and 27 great-grandchildren.
