Norma Ellen (Beard) Jones

Norma Ellen Beard Jones, 79, of Columbus, GA died March 7, 2023 at Orchard View Skilled Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2000 Kay Circle, Columbus, GA 31907 according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. Norma was born March 24, 1943 in Cleveland, MS daughter of the late Cletus Scotti Beard, Sr. and Norma Burdine Beard. Norma was baptized Presbyterian as a child and recently converted to Catholicism. Her hobbies were tennis, leather crafting, reading, and drawing. Later in life she enjoyed adult coloring books, mostly of animals. Among her favorite animals were dogs and elephants. Norma liked elephants because of the way they love their family and stick together. She treated those she cared for in the same way. She loved many animal companions over the years and treated them like family. Mighty Mouse and Foxy were her last pets.

Norma Ellen loved her family and friends with a kind and unconditional heart. If you knew her, you knew this. She was married almost 60 years to her loving husband, Franklin Webster Jones and she adored her only child, Krista Mardane Jones for 50 of those years. Norma also loved her first cousins, Bill Sultan, Phylis Cowart, and Gloria Baker. They grew up together and have been like siblings to her. She stayed in close touch with them until she couldn’t. They always felt she was the glue that held them together. She will be greatly missed, and the family invites you to join us in celebrating her life.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her sister Scottie Lee Beard Junkin and Bill Sultan.

Survivors include her husband Franklin Webster Jones of Columbus, GA; daughter, Krista Mardane Jones of Atlanta, GA; and brother, Cletus Scotti Beard, Jr. of Moody, AL.
