Nellie Gilmer Pate, 93, of Columbus died Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa, Ga.

Mrs. Pate was born on December 18, 1915 in Barbour County, AL. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Perry Gilmer and the late Lula Cook Gilmer. She was a long-term resident of Columbus, GA. She resided in Toccoa, GA for the last two years.

Mrs. Pate was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church and the Naomi Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Augusta Evans Chapter 177 of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Pate was a Honorary Lifetime Member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). She began working for the Columbus Municipal Court Clerk's Office on April 2, 1962, and was appointed Clerk of Municipal Court for Muscogee County on April 26, 1981. She retired from her position as Clerk of Court at age 70.

She was preceded in death by her sister (Gladys Oliver), brother (Bryan Gilmer), sister-in-law (Francis Gilmer), brother-in-law (Albert Oliver), nephew (Billy Oliver), daughter (Barbara Knight), sister (Victoria "Tobie" Gilmer), great-grandson (Andrew "Drew" Pate), son-in-law (John Quick), and son (Donald Pate).

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law (Gene and Janice Pate) of Columbus, daughter (Sandra Quick) of Toccoa, GA, daughter and son-in-law (Vicki and Paul Wood) of Macon, GA, daughter-in-law (Juanita Pate) of Columbus, son-in-law (Arthur Knight) of Columbus, fourteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, five nephews, and three nieces.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2009 from 3-4 PM at McMullen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 4 PM Sunday, September 27, 2009 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Sr. Pastor Dr. LeBron Matthews officiating. Interment will be held 10 AM Monday, September 28, 2009 at Parkhill Cemetery. The grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Eastern Heights Baptist Church 1342 17th St. Columbus, GA 31901.
