We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nathan Thomas Mitchell on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the age of 44.
Nathan was born September 7, 1979, to Bradford K. Mitchell and the late Ann Mitchell of Columbus, GA, Nathan was known for his infectious sense of humor, finding laughter even in the most unexpected places. While his stories were sometimes (maybe oftentimes) inappropriate, his delivery always left you in stitches! Nathan had a special gift when it came to human connection. He was a true testament to the power of laughter and lightheartedness.
Despite the joy he brought to others, Nathan was at war with himself, spending years battling depression and addiction. In his darkest days, Nathan held on to hope, finding inspiration in one bible verse, Matthew 17:20. "For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains." Nathan hoped to inspire others with his story of recovery, and, for a time, he pursued this dream, but ultimately, the addiction proved too strong.
Even in the face of this tragedy, Nathan's spirit shines on. We will remember him not for the demons he battled but for the laughter he shared, the hearts he touched, and the unwavering belief in the power of even the smallest mustard seed of faith. He may be gone, but his laughter, like a warm echo, will forever linger in our hearts.
Nathan leaves behind his children, Avery Mitchell (who is expecting his first grandson with fiancé Jacob Williams) and Cole Stephens; father, Brad (Joann) Mitchell; siblings Amy (James) Hagler, Shannon Mitchell (Adrienne Hixon), Brandon (Dana) Jenkins, and Brittany (Nathan) Brossett; aunt Floss McGlothlin; nieces Illeigh Emanuel, Sydney Hagler, Anna-Kay Hagler, and nephews Raleigh Hagler and Reese Crews.
While there will be no formal service, the family requests memories and stories of Nathan be shared to keep his memory alive. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Teen Challenge Columbus (givingfuel.com) in hopes of helping others struggling with addiction. The family appreciates your love and support during this time.
