Myrtle Lee Chalkley

Myrtle Lee Chalkley of Columbus, GA passed away Thursday at 6:25AM at Piedmont Hospital to be with the Lord.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2PM in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga, 31907. with Elder Josephine Cunningham officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A burial will take place at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.

Myrtle was born January 24th, 1941, in Abbeville, AL to the late Lorene Dobbs, and Clarence Lipscomb. She was a caring and loving soul, kind but strong willed, willing to help anyone at a moment’s notice.  Her presence and character will be missed, as she was well loved. She spent 48 years as an Administrative Assistant in Civil Service and retired April 2nd, 2019. Her awards include The Order of Saint Maurice, Superior Civil Service Award. Among many other forms of recognition throughout her career, Mayor Skip Henderson proclaimed April 2nd, 2019, as Myrtle L. Chalkley day. Her education includes Latin honors in both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters, Elva Loise Money, Mary Janice Jernigan, and three brothers, Clarence Jr. Lipscomb, James Merlyn Lipscomb, and Samuel Lipscomb.

Myrtle Lee Chalkley and William Eugene Chalkley were married 62 years at the time of her death. Other than her husband she is survived by two daughters, Wanda Carol Skeen, and Kimberly Darlene Owens, grandsons, Skyler Dayne Skeen, and Kenneth Eric Owens II and their significant others, Cyntheia Solorio and Spencer Brooke Huddleston, three great grandchildren Laiken Raine Skeen age 3, Anslea Brice Owens age 4, and Kenneth Eric Owens, sisters include Delaphaine White of Abbeville, AL, Lois Henry of Cottonwood, AL, sister-in-law Sarah-Ann Lipscomb, and many special nieces and nephews.
