Myrtle Mae Baker, 84, of Columbus, GA fell asleep in death on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus GA.
A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends on July 4, 2020 at 3:00 PM Est. via Zoom with Brother Arthur Leeper officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus 31907. A private interment will take place at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery at a later time. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 social distancing will be in effect.
Myrtle was born May 9, 1936 in Haleburg, AL as the youngest child of the late Marvin Spann and Madelle Maddox Spann. She was the owner and operator of Baker Insurance Agency with her husband, Charles .Most importantly; she was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was baptized in April 1974 in symbol of her dedication as a servant of Jehovah. She had a strong faith in the Biblical promise of a resurrection, and her family looks forward to welcoming her when she returns to life in the coming paradise. (John 5:28 & 29; Job 14:13-15)
Myrtle, known to her close friends and family as ‘Myrt', loved to read, cook, travel, country music and working in her garden. She loved her children and grandchildren and spending time with them. She enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves baseball and University of Alabama football. She was feisty and funny, and always told you exactly what she was thinking. She devoted many years to caring for her husband, Charles, before he passed away in 2010 after 57 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children: a son, Kevin (Tonya) Baker of Fortson, GA, a daughter, Kathy (Joe) Dallas of Columbus, GA; 4 grandchildren: Heather (Kenneth) Mason , Joseph (Erica) Dallas, Stephanie (David) Fortson, and Ben Baker; 3 great grandchildren: Charlotte Dallas, Mirabel Fortson, and Colette Fortson; and many other loving friends and relatives.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Baker; a son, Donnie Baker, and her parents and siblings.
