MSG (Ret.) Loyd Goza Crow, Jr., 89, of Midland, GA died Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with a military chaplain officiating. A private family interment will be held at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
MSG (Ret.) Crow was born August 7, 1927 in Greenwood, MS son of the late Loyd Goza Crow, Sr. and Eddie May Hughes Crow. He retired as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. During his military career, he earned the World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal - Japan, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the National Defense Service Medal.
In 1955 and 1956, MSG (Ret.) Crow was the National High Power Rifle Champion. He was the Running Deer World Champion in 1965. He was also the Coach of the US Biathlon Team in the Winter Olympics in 1972. MSG (Ret.) Crow was a judge in the 1980-Moscow, 1984-LA, 1996-Atlanta and 2000-Sydney Olympic Games. He was also a judge for the World Shooting Championships in 1982-Caracas, Venezuela, 1986-Suhl, East Germany, 1990-Moscow USSR, 1994-Milan, Italy, and 1998-Barcelona, Spain.
MSG (Ret.) Crow was on the UIT Rules Committee for 28 years. He was also in the Service Rifle Hall of Fame and the Running Target Hall of Fame.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Nell Crow and sister, Mary Stella.
Survivors include his three sons, Loyd Goza Crow, III (Mitzi) of Midland, GA, Gregory Crow (Lisa) of Talbot County, GA and Donald Crow of Columbus, GA, and grandson, Chandler Crow of Atlanta, GA.
