Myra Minford (M.M.) Hodge, 94, of Columbus, Ga. died Friday, March 01, 2019 at his residence.
A private entombment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus.
M.M. was born July 14, 1924 and was one of two children parented by Robert and Rosie Hodge. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the Yorktown Air Craft Carrier and later to the USS Buchanan. During the war, his missions were in the Pacific Fleet. During his service, M.M. was awarded, two Battle Stars, Navy Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp and two loops, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Word War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak-Leaf Cluster, and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1943 with a service related medical disability. Upon returning home to Georgia, he began his first career working for the General Gas Company and later with the Civil Service Post Engineers at Fort Benning, GA where he was promoted to the position of instructor of the Self Help School and retired after 28 years.
M.M. was a life member of the Shrine Club of Phenix City, Alabama and their clown association for the handicapped children. His greatest love and devotion was repairing older vehicles.
Other than his parents, M.M was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bettie Coulter Hodge and daughter, Myra Hodge Jaworski.
Survivors include his two sons, Michael Hodge (Sherriann) of Columbus, Ga., Steven Hodge of Upatoi, Ga., nieces, nephews and grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
