Mike Albert Hemminger, 57, of Columbus, GA passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Medical Center.
Mike, son of Norman and the late Helen Hemminger and brother of the late Karin Hemminger Gibson was born on May 6, 1956 at the U.S. Army Hospital in Ft. Riley, KS.
During his younger years, Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many wonderful hours with his father trout fishing in the North Georgia Mountains and hunting on the Ft. Benning Military Reservation.
Sadly, at about age 17, Mike was diagnosed as having schizophrenia. From then on, his life was a series of episodes of both mental and physical anguish that were too difficult to overcome. The Lord stepped in on May 30, 2013 and saw fit to give Mike entry into Heaven where pain and anguish do not exist and where he will be able to spend eternity with his loving mother and sister.
There will be no memorial service as such and the family requests that in lieu of sending flowers to the home of his father make a donation to Mike's memory to the Columbus Alliance of Mentally Ill (AMI) or to the animal shelter (PAWS).
