Meridith E. Wilson, 38, of Fortson, GA passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Thursday, April 24, 2025 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Paul Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Meridith was a dear child of God. She was a one-of-a-kind blessing to those who knew her. Born with severe cerebral palsy her challenges were evident, but she was given every opportunity to fulfill her God given potential – and she truly did!

The village of people who supported Meridith throughout her lifetime is too many to mention here. Her mom and dad have deep gratitude and respect for every therapist, every teacher, every church volunteer and every caregiver who helped Meridith through her daily life. Each one of them deserves extra jewels in their heavenly crown.

Meridith attended Muscogee County Schools: Wynnton Elementary, Blackmon Road Middle, and Northside High School. She had the honor of being one of the first students to attend Northside in its inaugural year, 2002.

For many years she was a cherished participant at Easter Seals of West Georgia growing alongside the organization as it evolved. The people at Easter Seals cared deeply for Meridith and dedicated themselves to her success in life, along with all her classmates and friends. The mission of Easter Seals therapeutic services is vitally important to families with loved ones having special needs.

During Meridith’s teens and 20s, her greatest thrill was participating in the Special Olympics. Swimming and Bowling were her favorite sports! She continued to enjoy bowling throughout her 30s. However, when it came to swimming, no way, no how, was she getting in water colder than 95 degrees! Meridith competed in events at the local Columbus level and across the state of Georgia. But, even better than all the Special Olympic medals she earned were the relationships built through those years. Our Special Olympics friends became our people and we love them still.

Meridith was raised at Northside Baptist Church. Her parents dedicated her life to Jesus when she was a young baby. God’s grace carried Meridith and her family through many valleys and up to many mountain tops. As a result, she was an inspiration to others. Last year Meridith joined the new “Wonderfully Made” ministry at Evangel Church, a ministry for adults who are differently-abled. They embraced Meridith, and her family, with open arms, providing a precious opportunity to be nourished by the word of God, to be loved, and to serve God. Meridith’s mom will carry on where Meridith left off.

Though she did not take her first steps until she was 5 years old, she motivated others to step high. Despite being non-verbal, she communicated volumes and could tell a funny joke with a look in her eyes. Though she could not read the Bible, she had a deeper relationship with Jesus than most could even fathom. She was amazing in every way.

Her parents believed they were taking good care of her, but in truth, she was the one taking good care of them. Meridith’s life had an impact on the world around her and her impact will carry on through the initiatives she ignited. To God be the Glory!

She is preceded in death by her biological father, Rudy L. Wilson; grandparents, Lodrick and Bessie Wilson; grandfather, Charles Estes; grandmother, Onelda Abercrombie.

Meridith is survived by her mother and father Charlene and Bill Abercrombie of Fortson, GA; grandmother, Linda Estes of Savannah, GA; brothers, Chad Abercrombie (Jennifer) and Brad Abercrombie both of Dothan, AL; aunts and uncles, Brooke Hooker (David) of Savannah, GA, Tracy Aston (Bill) of Houston TX, Thomas Abercrombie (Melissa) of Gadsden, AL, cousins, Wesley & Austin Hooker of Savannah GA, Amy Grimme and Winston Wegner of Houston TX.
