Melvin Carthell Singleton, 56 of Phenix City, AL died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Midtown Medical Center.



A private interment was held in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, according to Colonial Funeral Home, 613 14th St. Phenix City, AL.



Mr. Singleton was born July 9, 1957 in Belle Glade, Florida, son of Myrtle Day Singleton and the late Marvin Douglas Singleton. He was a former truck driver. Mr. Singleton honorably served his country in the United States Navy. His service included two tours of duty, serving on the USS Enterprise and the John F. Kennedy Aircraft Carriers. He was an ammunitions expert. He was an avid fisherman.



Other than his father he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Ann Rodgers and brother, James E. "Bo" Singleton.



Survivors include his mother, Myrtle Singleton; daughters, Cara Marie Singleton and Christie Lynn Singleton; brother, Roy Douglas Singleton, Sr. and wife Shirley; sister, Janice Watson; granddaughter, Kaleigha Hall and several nieces and nephews.
