Melvin E. Hunt, Jr., 91 of Columbus died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday June 21, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bryan Gibson officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Hunt was born January 12, 1923 in Columbus, Ga. son of the late Melvin Earl and Hortense Ogletree Hunt. He retired from the Georgia Power Company with over 30 years of service. While working for Georgia Power, Mr. Hunt was a member of the Georgia Power Ambassadors was the editor for the Georgia Ambassadors Newsletter and was awarded the Engineer of the year Award from the Georgia Engineering Society in 1974. He was also a Graduate of Auburn University, member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, Toastmasters, the Optimist Club, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, member of the River City Model A Ford Club and a advisor for the Junior Optimist Club and Junior Achievement.
Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his wife Harolyn G. Hunt and Son-in-law, James "Jerry" Cameron.
Survivors include three daughters; Lynn Hunt Cameron of Talbotton, GA., Lynda Hunt Pate (Joe) of Columbus, GA., Laura Hunt Sonnenschein of Loganville, GA., two sons; Harold "Bubba" Hunt (Linda) and Melvin "Bo" Hunt (Karen) both of Columbus, GA., 10 Grandchildren: Todd Bennett (Beth), Vicky Blaxton (Mark), Jody Pate (Tracy), Charles Sonnenschein (Stacey), Stacey Labouchere (Eric), Christy Slocum (Nathan), Jennifer Hunt, Sonja Foster (Chuck), Scott Cameron (Lori) and Gary Paul Mears; 15 Great-Grandchildren.
The family would like to thank his caregivers Jennifer, Julie and Lakisha for all the excellent care given to Mr. Hunt.
