Mary was born in Midland Georgia to the late H.T. Whitley, former Columbus Chief of Detective and Josie Mae Watson Whitley. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt who loved her family deeply. Mary was an avid card player who especially loved playing bridge. Mary graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1942. She was a life long homemaker with her family and friends being the center of her world.

Mary was the common thread that created her family's tight-knit bond. You could always find her on the telephone sharing good news; she was the central hub for all things family. This involvement extended beyond her family and to her friends with whom she kept in constant communication with. Everyone who came into contact with Mary could see her love of life; it was contagious. Her infectious personality and hilarious sense of humor made life more exciting for everyone who knew her. She was the true matriarch of her family and her ability to bring everyone together will continue to live long past her death.

Other than her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kendall Blair Crawford.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Richard Corley Terrell; four daughters, Jan Crawford (Doug), Judy Whitt (Randy), Jill Yates (Jeff), and Jennifer Horne (Steve) all of Columbus, Georgia. She is also survived by her sister Helen Elliot (Sam) of Farmers Branch, Texas, thirteen grandchildren, Tripp Crawford (Christine), Erin Crawford, Whit Crawford, Vicki Hammock, Brad Whitt, Ryan Yates (Taylor), Justin Yates (Kendall), Jenna Yates, Clay Horne, Mandi Horne, Lauren Skibbe (Ryan), Kathleen Horne, great-grandchildren, Cole Crawford, C.J. Hammock, Chris Hammock, Leslie Hammock and several nieces, nephews and caring friends.
