Mary Taylor King, 90, of Columbus, GA died Monday, March 1, 2010.
A celebration of life will be held 10:00AM Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Chapel of The Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery with Pastor Al Hopkins and Neil Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends after the service according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
A sweet, gentile Southern Lady, she was born October 24, 1919 in Talbot County, to the late John and Effie Taylor. She graduated from Buena Vista High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart Felix I. Jenkins of Upatoi, Georgia in 1937. Together they had a daughter, Barbara Faye, and made their home in Muscogee County until Mary became widowed. She later met and married John H. King of the Columbus Fire Department, and their marriage would become a lifetime love affair celebrating 57 years together.
She worked and retired from the Gas Light Company of Columbus and was a lifelong member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school to many who fondly remember her.
Mary was a country girl at heart and enjoyed the simple things in life. She lived in the moment, and believed there was nothing that a Coca-Cola and a Moon Pie couldnâ
