Mary Nell Scarborough, 85, of Fortson, GA, died Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Green House at Calvary.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 6795 Whitesville Rd. Columbus, GA 31904 with Rev. Norman Dunlap and Rev. Scott Tucker officiating. A private family interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. According to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, the family will receive friends Thursday from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the church.
Mrs. Scarborough was born November 11, 1931 in Geneva, AL, daughter of the late Wilmer Allen Hatcher and Leila Mae Hatcher. She received her Associates Degree from Columbus College, and later retired from the Georgia State Department of Corrections as the Administrative Services Supervisor. Mrs. Scarborough was very active at St. Mark UMC in various ministries. She was very friendly and outgoing, and enjoyed her world travels with friends. Mrs. Scarborough was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who exemplified a life of serving others out of love.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph S. Scarborough, III of Fortson, GA; two children, Rhonda Beatty Noel of North Carolina and Roy L. "Butch" Beatty, Jr. of Fortson, GA; brother, Billy Jackson Hatcher (Judy) of Macon, GA; 4 grandchildren, Steven L. Locklar, Jr, Mallory B. Campbell, Elise Noel Toms and Adam J. Beatty; 2 step-grandchildren, Amy R. Dial and Cheri N. Rice; 5 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
