Mary Frances Davenport Baker, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2020.
Due to the public health crisis a private cryptside service is set for Monday, April 6, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Pines Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery with Dr. Randy Wood officiating. A public Celebration of Life Service for family and friends will be held at a date to be determined after the Covid-19 pandemic has subsided according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus GA 31904.
Frances Baker was born on September 5, 1921 in Tampa, Fl. She is the daughter of the late Stephen Franklin Davenport and Emmie Chambers Davenport. She was the oldest of 7 children. She was a former member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City AL, present member of Liberty Baptist Church, 1077 Hwy. 314 Fayetteville, GA 30214. She loved to read, sew and was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years James Woodrow Baker, her son-in-law, John E. Lunsford, step-son, Donald H. Baker and siblings William Davenport, Rev. Stephen Walker Davenport, Lilyon Davenport DeKok (John), and Elizabeth Davenport Raines (Loren), brother-in-law Richard W. McGuire and nephews Campbell Harty and Johnnie Cole.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Baker Lunsford, one step-son, James Neal Baker (Jynean), two sisters, Jane Davenport McGuire and Grace Davenport Penton, brother-in-law, Retired Lt. Col Ben H. Penton, sister-in-law, Bonnie Pierce Davenport, grandchildren, James Eric Lunsford (Margaret) and Laura Anne Faulkner (Phil), two great granddaughters, Jessica Elizabeth Lunsford and Sarah Anne Faulkner and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made out to Liberty Baptist Church, Fayetteville, GA in her memory.
