Mary Elizabeth Jones Alton
January 21, 1939 — December 30, 2015
Mary Elizabeth "Maw-Maw" Jones Alton, 76, of Columbus, GA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, January 2, 2016 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Hank Reeves officiating. A private interment will be held in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Alton was born on January 21, 1939 in Montezuma, GA daughter of the late James Jones and Ethel Plymale Jones. She was a homemaker and childcare provider most of her life. She loved to fish and was an avid bingo player and developed many friendships playing bingo, which are too many to count. All that knew her could expect a hug and a kiss. She loved spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, Robert William Alton, and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Pam Collins (Mark) of Columbus, GA, Sandi Gierson (John) of Houston, TX and Tammy Briggs (Garry) of Phenix City, AL, grandchildren, Victoria Kush (Justin), Daniel Collins (Hillary), Christy Tooley (Nate), Justin Gierson, Tyler Briggs (Lindsey) and Tori Briggs, great-grandchildren, Dylan Griffin, Delaney Kush, Joshua Kush, Abbey Williams, Dylan Collins, Bayleigh Collins, Shalyn Black and Natalie Tooley.
