Martha Delia Rainey

Martha Delia Rainey “Dee” age 87 went to be with the Lord on Saturday September 17, 2022 at Columbus Hospice House.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00AM Tuesday September 20, 2022 at St. Luke’s Methodist Church, 1104 2nd Ave, Columbus, GA 31901

Dee was born February 19, 1935 to the late William Rainey and Elizabeth Joyner. She attended Wynnton Elementary School, and was a graduate of Columbus High and Shorter College.  She began her teaching career in California and moved back home to Columbus to enjoy over 30 years of being a loving Special Ed teacher to numerous students at Edwina Wood. She was active in The Columbus Jr. League, Bridge Group, and was an avid Golfer at The Country Club of Columbus. Dee was an avid Auburn fan. She loved going to many Saturday games.  With a gift for being clever, Dee loved to write about local historical events and authored “A Rainey Day Ramble” of short memorable stories. Dee had the true heart of a servant and doted on family, her many friends and she especially cherished her beloved pups including Pee Wee, Peg O My Heart, & Rosie Ray. Besides her parents Martha Rainey is predeceased in death by two sisters Jane Rainey Gibson, & Betty Rainey Pearson, and nephew William Gibson.

Dee leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews Jerre Pearson (Kerby), Beth Fulghom (Dean), Patti Pearson, Sarah Gibson Ricker (Bob), Elizabeth Gibson Brockington (Rhett), John (Karen) and Charles Gibson. She leaves many great and great-great nieces and nephews also. The family also thanks Chantel Short for her faithful service to Dee in her last days.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Luke’s for their organ fund or PAWS Humane Society.
