Martha Jane Barfield Profile Photo

Martha Jane Barfield, known affectionately to her family as Janie, was a woman who mastered the art of infusing joy and laughter into the lives she touched, even as she embarked on her final journey on February 6, 2024, in Waverly Hall, GA. Born on November 5, 1963 in Baltimore, MD, Martha's life was a testament to the power of positivity, compassion, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM, Friday, February 9, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Always knowing that nursing was what she was meant to do, Martha's academic pursuits led her to earn an Associates of Nursing from Southern Union. Martha's nursing career began in 1992 at the Roosevelt Institute for Rehabilitation, where she touched countless lives. Her calling took on its true form when she joined the team at Columbus Hospice 22 years ago, becoming a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse, dedicating her professional life to bringing comfort, dignity, and peace to those in their final moments.

Martha's interests were as varied as the tapestry of life she so skillfully wove. Her family treasured moments spent with her on trips to the mountains, where she found solace in the serenity of nature and the challenge of hiking trails. Martha's creative spirit shone brightly through her mastery of quilt-making, and her hands were rarely still as she dabbled in a multitude of crafts. She had the remarkable ability to infuse fun into every gathering, lighting up rooms with her laughter and encouraging everyone to live fiercely in the moment.

In the symphony of life, Martha played her melody with such fervor and joy that it will continue to resonate within the lives of her family, friends, and all the souls she comforted. Her story is not one of an ending but a beautiful reminder that our actions, our love, and our spirit carry on far beyond our physical presence in this world. Martha leaves behind a world that is a little less bright without her but infinitely more joyful for having known her.

Martha, a devoted wife to her loving husband, Greg Barfield, was the epitome of unwavering support and partnership. Together, they created a legacy of love that is forever etched in the hearts of their daughters, Melissa (Scott) Richard and Kimberly Barfield. Martha's joy blossomed even further with the arrival of her cherished grandchildren: Persephone Williams, Gregory Lucas Barfield, Natalie Whittaker, and Reader Warner. She is preceded in death by her father Bill Robertson, and is also survived by her mother Dora Robertson, her sister Dora (Mark) Reid, her brother Gene (Tatum) Robertson, her nieces Amber (Eli) Murphy, Brittany (Shiloh) Spurlock, nephews Matthew (Keri) Reid, Justin Robertson, Jakob Robertson, Joshua Robertson, Aidyn Reid, her great nephews Landon Murphy, Mason Spurlock, Noah Spurlock, and great niece Paisley Reid.
