Funeral services will be held 3:00PM Sunday, January 9, 2022 at North Highland Assembly of God in Columbus, GA according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Sobasky was born March 20, 1956 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Daniel Jerome Sobasky and Lorraine Violet Sobasky. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Daniel Sobasky, sister-in-law, Marie Carroll Sobasky and niece, Tabitha Denise Grantham.
Mark lived a miraculous life. A life that allowed everyone around him to be inspired and marvel at his spirit’s refusal to give up on his dreams despite health obstacles. At eighteen years of age while water skiing, he had a massive stroke along with a brain hemorrhage. My parents were told he would not live through the night and if so he would never walk again and would be a vegetable. With prayer & by God’s Grace, he survived. Over the years a cycle ensued of subsequent brain hemorrhages, hospital stays and physical therapy. Each episode he met with courage and determination until 1986 at age 30, after suffering his sixth & final hemorrhage he was told his body could not withstand another. As his last hope, he was advised of a “still experimental” YAG laser technique in Cincinnati and was one of the first to be operated on using this technique. The surgery was a success and Mark went on to live a very full life. He attended Auburn briefly but went on to graduate college from Troy State University in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. He always had a love for computer programming and really enjoyed teaching. Many of his students have shared that he was their favorite teacher. Aside from spending time with his family and friends, his passion was cheering on the Auburn Tigers football team whether they were playing near or far, he was always in the stands. You didn’t have a conversation with him that wasn’t followed by the battle cry of “War Eagle”.
Mr. Sobasky is survived by his sister, Patricia Sobasky Grantham (Richard) and brothers, John Stephen Sobasky and Barry Lee Sobasky. Mark always followed his family’s accomplishments with such pride and joy. He had four nephews, Richard Dale Grantham Jr,. John Daniel Sobasky, Barry Lee Sobasky, Jr.(Heather), and Michael David Sobasky (Ashley) and three nieces, Angela Grantham Griffin (Wayne), Shawna Sobasky Cheves (Will), Samantha Christian Sobasky. He doted on his great nieces and nephews as well.; Jacob Strickland Cheves, Halleigh Mackenzie Woods, William Chandler Cheves, Hannah Madison Woods, Maxwell Landon Cheves and Michael Jonas Sobasky.
