Mark Charles Saxon 76, of Columbus, Georgia passed away Saturday, October 09, 2021 in Henderson, NV.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Second Baptist Church 2800 2nd Ave. Columbus, Georgia 31904 with Rev. Tommy Fountain and Dr. Don Wilhite officiating. Interment will be held 2:00 PM Monday, October 18, 2021 in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and family Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Georgia 31907.
Mark was born March 14, 1945 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Everette Paul Saxon and Ruby Betty Ann Emory Saxon. Mark was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He retired as a welder after 28 years with Continental Carbon Company in Phenix City, Alabama. Mark loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He also enjoyed taking his dogs coon hunting. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Jones and by his brothers Lonnie Saxon and James Saxon.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Heidi; his children, Terry Lynn Gottesman (Scott) of Long Beach, CA, Tony Saxon (Mary Sue) of Phenix City, AL, Cathrein Pauline Silva (Jeremy) of Smith Station, AL; and Andy Saxon of Columbus, GA, a grandson, Charles Saxon of Long Beach, CA, and Papa’s little darlings Samantha Saxon, Corina Silva and Olivia Silva. He is also survived by his brother David Saxon (Doris) of Headland, AL, his sister Betty Wilson of Talbotton, GA, his sister, Gertie Paschal of Columbus, Ga, his brother, Dennis Saxon of Columbus, GA, his mother-in-law, Cathrein McIllaney of Columbus, GA, his sister-in-law Chris Sims (Phil) of Douglasville, GA, his brother-in-law Fred Holdinghausen (Mary) of Seale, AL and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
