Marion Creed Feighner, 96, of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Columbus Hospice House.
The family is holding an informal gathering from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Friday, March 31, 2023 for friends and neighbors to share memories of Marion with some light refreshments on the third-floor card room at Spring Harbor, 100 Spring Harbor Dr. Columbus, Georgia 31904. Burial services will be held in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. at a later date.
Beloved by her family, Marion was born July 28, 1926 in Bayonne, New Jersey to Richard and Edith Creed. Her siblings include: Richard (Elise) Creed, John (Linda) Creed, Kathleen Petre and Eileen Schafer (Deceased).
Marion led a long fruitful life brimming with family and friends. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Her sense of humor was astute and sometimes surprising; leaving us laughing long after the words had been said.
Her compassion for others led Marion to pursue a nursing degree at the close of WWII. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Grasslands Hospital in White Plains, New York in 1947. She then married Donald Taylor, M.D. and became a mother to Deborah Taylor, Cheryl Cloutier and Janet (Kurt) Cook. We learned to love the natural world with her, how to sew and knit, ride a horse, and appreciate beauty. She made sure her three girls went to college, not an assured practice at the time.
Marion enjoyed becoming a grandmother in 1977 to her adoring grandson, Luke (Julia) Taylor-Brown and loved hearing news of her great grandchildren Nicholas (2012) and Ava (2016).
In 1986, Marion married J.W. (Bill) Feighner of Columbus, Georgia who was the light of her life. They enjoyed many happy years together along with Bill’s adult family: Bill (Zada) Feighner, Barrie Bain, Kay (Kent) Van Allen, and Bill’s grandchildren Mercer Reeves, John Reeves, Phillip (Morgan) Crawford, Margaret Kelsey, Gordon (Katherine Prevost) Feighner, and Barrett (Katherine) Feighner. Bill and Marion had an active social life and traveled the world together. They were faithful congregants of First Presbyterian Church of Columbus, Georgia.
Marion always had good friends. People could rely on her. She loved to garden and play bridge, tennis and golf. Her talents extended to needlepoint embroidery and water color painting. Her artwork has been on display and enjoyed at the Golden Gallery at Spring Harbor in Columbus, Georgia. Marion lived at Spring Harbor for the last sixteen years of her life. She is remembered there as an active, social resident who was always welcoming to others.
Above all, Marion is remembered by all of those who knew her for her capacity to love.
