Margrit Lawton

Margrit Lawton, 89, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2022 after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer’s.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00pm Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 4026 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends following the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Margrit was born on January 6, 1933 in Craimimat, Romania. She was the fourth of five daughters of Johann and Katharina. She, her mother and 3 sisters fled Romania at the start of World War II, going to Berlin before settling in Salzburg, Austria. This is where she fell in love with our father and was to be married after the Lutheran Refugee Service arranged for the family’s safe passage to Evanston, IL. After settling in Columbus, GA, Margrit devoted her life to the development and success of her 3 children because of the love she held for them. She worked diligently and tirelessly to ensure her children were raised in a Christian home, exposed to culture and sports and succeeded in their studies to be successful and self-reliant adults.

She is survived by her children, Raymond (Yvonne), Ronald (Kathy) and Renee (Dale). She loved her grandchildren, Josh Lawton, Whitney Lawton, Katherina Miller and Christopher Lawton. She spent a great deal of time to the growth and development of Josh and Katherina.

She is much loved and will be deeply missed.
