Margarite "Big Mama" Martineau
July 15, 1932 — June 27, 2014
Marguerite Martineau affectionately known as "Big Mama" by her family and friends died June 27, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Infantry Center Chapel, Ft Benning, GA. Interment will be held following the services at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Monday, June 30 at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA. 31907.
She was born July 15, 1932 in Macon, GA, daughter of the late Ora and Walt Sanders.
Survivors include two daughters, Debby Gaultney and her husband David and Diane Gilder of Columbus, GA.; son, Ronald Martineau and his wife Paula of Chicago, IL; five grandsons, Lee Jordan, Jamie Jordan, Kevin Gilder, Justin Martineau and Mitchell Martineau; two granddaughters, Tiffany and Monica Martineau; one granddaughter-in-law, Holly Jordan; and one great-granddaughter Joely Jordan. Her poodle, Pebbles, was her constant companion.
She is now reunited with the love of her life, her husband, Bill Martineau. She was a very supportive military spouse and traveled and moved around the world with him.
She worked as a volunteer in the hospital and as an assistant to the school nurse while her children were in school, which they always joked how they could not check out and play sick with your mom in the school clinic!
She was always proud of her family and would always introduce her children as my #1 daughter, my son and the baby and brag on how handsome her grandsons were! Big Mama will be missed. She was the "Rock" of our family!
We thank God for our time with her and will cherish our memories forever!
