Margaret Ann "Mollie" Ross, 90, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at her home.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 24, 2017 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery with Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. The family asks that all friends meet at McMullen Funeral Home at 10:15AM Friday for a procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Ross was born April 10, 1926 in Birmingham, AL daughter of the late Marston and Lila Mae Gammell Muir. She attended the University of Montevallo, formerly Alabama College. Mrs. Ross was a member for 30 years at St. Luke United Methodist Church where she was active with the Alter Guild.
She was married to Col. Thomas B. Ross, Jr. for 34 years until his death in 1982. During WWII and after, Mollie worked for the U.S. War Department for Army Ground Forces from 1944-1948.
She resigned her post to marry and begin her life as an Army wife. She served proudly in that role from 1948-1969 when they retired to a life of travel and golf. Mollie loved to entertain in the unique military style and seamlessly moved the family from Army base to Army base with ease and grace.
She loved painting with watercolor, travel, golf, reading stories of the South and watching the Atlanta Braves. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Thomas B. Ross, Jr.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann R. McDuffie (Dan) of Midland, GA and Cindy R. Givens (Randy) of Columbus, GA, brother, William C. Muir (Jane) of Birmingham, AL, grandchildren, Michele L. McDuffie (Lee) of Kings Mountain, NC, Carson G. Pass (Seth) of Newnan, GA and Ross McDuffie (Amber) of Fortson, GA, 3 great grandchildren, Kathryn Ross Pass, Thomas Briggs Pass and Margaret Larkin McDuffie, and 2 nephews, Loring Muir (Debbie) and Michael Muir.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.
