Margaret Elizabeth (Brown) Dansby

Margaret Elizabeth Brown Dansby, 91, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones Tuesday February 11th, 2025 at 1:45 pm.

Visitation will be held at Northside Baptist Church (959 54th Street Columbus, Ga), Friday February 14th from 10:00am until 11:00 am with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 am with Rev. Jerry Speer officiating. A graveside service will be held Parkhill cemetery Saturday February 15, 2025 (4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907) beginning at 2:00.

Margaret was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, love and support for her family and community. While in high school she met the love of her life and beloved husband Arter Smith (Sonny) Dansby and they enjoyed 49 wonderful years together until parted by death.

Known as Margaret, Mrs. Dansby, Mama, Nanny, or Susta, she lived a long, blessed, and well loved life. Margaret, along with her husband, was an active member of Northside Baptist Church. During her membership she filled many roles including Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, church hostess, and choir member until she was reluctantly slowed down by age and health issues.

As a member of her community she was active with the Columbus Jaycettes helping to raise money for many worthy causes as well as working with the Miss Georgia pageant for many years. “Mom/Nanny” was also involved with the PTA for both her children and grandchildren. Margaret was a worker at the election polls faithfully serving the voters of Columbus. As a breast cancer survivor, she felt lead to help other women affected by breast cancer and also participated in fundraising efforts for the Breast Cancer Association.

In addition to those collected along the way, Margaret was lucky enough to have many of the same friends from childhood through her golden years, including the ones affectionately known as the “Golden Girls”.

She loved all crafts, cooking, decorating, and gardening but her biggest love was her family. As the matriarch of her family she raised her children and helped to raise her younger sister, her grand and great grand children as well as some of her nieces and nephews. “Nanny” was a precious treasure for which we will forever be grateful.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Arthur Brown and Gertrude Touchton Brown Harden and five beloved siblings. Margaret is survived by a daughter Carol Dansby Malphrus (Linc) and a son Bruce Arter Dansby (Becky), twelve grandchildren, Brandi Portell (Mike), Roger Owens (Candace), BJ Dansby (Sam), Tamara Bollinger (Garrett), Zahara Dansby, Celeste Dansby, Analise Dansby, Lily Dansby and Sophia Dansby, six great grand children, Bradley Smith, Landon Portell, Lola Owens, Lottie Owens, Eve Bollinger and Aria Bollinger. She is also survived by younger sister Martha Tillery (Donnie).
