Maltie Anderson, 85, of Columbus, Georgia, died Monday, August 28, 2011 at his home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel 3874 Gentian Boulevard Columbus, GA with Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Anderson was born November 20, 1925 in Shiloh, Georgia, the son of the late John Wesley Anderson and the late Carrie Hudson Anderson. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having fought at the Battle of the Bulge, and received a Purple Heart for wounds he suffered in that conflict. He was in the Easy Company of the 394th Regiment, 99th Division, also known as the Checkerboard Division. An accountant by profession, he began his career at McNeely and Henry and continued in the health care field. He was Comptroller at the Medical Center and retired from the Columbus Health Department. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
He is predeceased by his brothers, Frank Anderson and Richard Anderson, sisters, Bobbie Jean Anderson and Louise Hendrix, and stepson, Baxtre Lowe.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara Brooks Anderson of Columbus, GA, daughter, Joan Loughman (Tom) of Columbus, GA, sons, Jim Anderson (Joey) of Atlanta, GA, Doug Anderson (Barbara) of Birmingham, AL and Andy Anderson (Darlene) of Marietta, GA, sister, Elaine Daniels of Woodland, GA, brother, Luther Anderson of Manchester, GA; grandchildren, Allison Lowe Bessant (John), Tom and Laurie Loughman, Morgan and Meredith Anderson, and Brooks Anderson; great grandchildren, Brock, Drake, and Makayla Bessant.
