It is with profound respect and deep affection that we honor the life of Major Jack Robert Weston, who passed gracefully into eternity from natural causes on January 11, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia. Born on April 18, 1944, in Newport, Rhode Island, Jack's journey through life was marked by incredible achievements and the unwavering love he shared with his family, friends, and the communities he served.

A patriot at heart, and known lovingly as The Major, he dedicated three decades of service to the United States Air Force, where his exceptional knowledge and skill in computer science and mathematics aided in the advancement of global navigation systems. Jack's involvement in the development of GPS technology has left a legacy imprinted on the fabric of modern civilization. During his military career he served at NORAD and NASA and was stationed twice in Germany. Following his military career he worked at Total Systems and Delta Airlines, where his programming expertise contributed significantly to each organization's success.

Jack was recognized not just for his professional accomplishments but also for his intellectual pursuits. He was a lifelong learner who studied mathematics at the University of Alaska Anchorage and further honed his skills in computer science at Tuskegee University before earning a Masters degree at Columbus State University. His academic endeavors equipped him to navigate and evolve with the rapidly changing technology landscape, and his passion for education reflected the wise words of Nelson Mandela, who said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

Beyond his career and scholarly interests, Jack was an ordinary man with a palette of hobbies that brought joy and comfort to his daily life. He often found solace in the complex world of puzzles, reveled in the excitement of watching sports, and was a keen follower of medical and police dramas. His home was enlivened by his love for indoor gardening, where he nurtured plants with the same patience and care he devoted to everything he loved. Not to be overlooked was his adoration for model airplanes, which reflected both his career in the Air Force and his attention to meticulous detail.

Those who knew Jack personally would describe him as a man of wisdom, generosity, and intelligence. His qualities shone brightest in his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Jack's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was loved by an extensive and supportive family: his devoted wife, Gloria Weston; his former spouse, Laura Thomas; daughters, Gwen Christine Weston, Kym Laret, and Michelle Wescott; son, Joel Weston; daughters-in-law, Niamh Kelly-Weston and Michele Wescott; son-in-law, Christoper Laret; stepdaughters, Yolanda Harvey and Yvette Harvey; stepson, Leo Harvey Jr.; son-in-law Clay Woodward; daughter-in-law, Brianne Harvey; grandchildren, Alexander Laret, Isabelle Laret, Zoe Wescott, Vail Woodward, and Elizabeth Gloria Harvey; and his siblings, Frederick Norman, George Glover, Gerald Norman, James Glover, Joel Norman, John Glover, John Welch, Laurence Glover, Melvin Norman, Phillip Norman, Raymond Welch, Russell Glover, Tyrone Welch, Alfreda Siah, Cynthia Munford, Ella Bowen, Gloria Fowlkes, Kim Norman, Valerie Norman, and Velina Welch. He inspired those around him to strive towards their best, to constantly seek knowledge, and to approach life's challenges with the same analytical grace he applied to a perplexing puzzle.
