Major (Ret) Wilmer O'Neal "Buck" Polston, 84, of Columbus, Ga., passed away Friday, September 19, 2014.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, September 23, at Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard White officiating, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends Monday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
Interment, with full military honors will be held 1:00 pm Friday, September 26, 2014 at Ft. Huachuca Military Cemetery, Sierra Vista, AZ.
Major Polston was born in Geneva County, AL, to the late Benjamin Eddy Polston and Sidney Tearsie Holman. He retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of Huachuca Masonic Lodge #53, Sierra Vista, AZ and Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church. Major Polston was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy Garner Polston and four brothers, Samuel, Olon, Sidney and Clarence.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Wright Polston; one daughter, Deborah Mueller (Scott) of Denver, CO; four sons, Mike (Mary Jane) of Austin TX, Gary (Susan) of Waikoloa, HI, Jeffrey (Christine) of Yuma, AZ and David of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Wesley Polston (Joy) of Cottondale, FL; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Pierce Chapel UMC building fund, 5122 Pierce Chapel Road, Midland, GA 31820 or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
