Major (Ret.) Robert Dell Swinford, 50 of Midland, GA died Saturday, June 29, 2013.
Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 5, 2013 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the services at their residence, according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Major (Ret.) Swinford was born June 8, 1963 in Greenwood, Mississippi son of Robert Rondell Swinford and the late Kristin Robinson Swinford. He was retired from the U. S. Army.
Maj. Swinford began his army career as a 22 year old private at Harmony Church, Ft. Benning, Ga in 1986. After 23 years of service, he retired in 2008 as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the nursing corps while stationed at Ft. Benning.
He was an avid outdoorsman his entire life. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved sports as well and played many especially golf.
He had a true love and appreciation of music and played the trumpet, guitar, piano, and the drums.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Ann Wirth Swinford of Midland, GA; daughter, Ashley Swinford of Cumberland, MD; sons, Samuel and Nathan Swinford both of Midland, GA; father, Robert Rondell Swinford of Southaven, MS; brothers, Stacy Swinford (Sally) of Jackson, MS and Kerry Swinford of Sidon, MS; step-siblings, Ronnie Adams (Cindy), Donnie Adams (Gail) and Cindy Holiday (Bubba) all of the Southaven, MS area, and several nieces and nephews.
